In the Elated Extra this month ( http://www.elated.com/newsletter/ ) I talked about the significance of your workspace, and how it defines you. To that end, I'd like to share a pic of my workspace with you. In the spirit of complete honesty I haven't tidied it at all - I just stepped back and took a photo.

I await your judgement. And if you'd like to share a pic of your own workspace, please feel free to do so in this forum topic. I'd love to see it!

Hi Simon! Long time since I've showed up! Nothing personal, really, just needed to clean my email inbox, so, for a while I was busy getting to speed with important stuff and unregistering from lots and lots of newsletters that really didn't matter...

Well, up to speed now, only a few emails everyday...

Now, I must tell you that you said you wasn't going to clean up your desk and you did... All tidy, at least compared to mine!

I might have some news, at last, involving my own work... Not from home, but expect to be opening my own company, with my girlfriend, in the next weeks... I'll post if on FB then, ehehe!

Lastly, it is awesome to be able to work from home, despite not being that my future situation, despite all efforts are being done to have home around to 3 to 5 minutes of work and kindergarten (?? with a «t»?) within 1 minute walking distance... That's also some privileges... Ehehehe!

Anyway, cheers from Portugal and I'll try to be a bit more regular again!

Hi Márcio,

Great news about the new company. Good luck with it, and I'd love to see the new desk before you trash it =)

And I promise I didn't tidy my desk - honest!

Now you mention it... I haven't yet thought about that... I tend to think of a pad and a computer and don't remember... the place to put them, ahahah!

I'll try to remember to take a picture before I trash it... Promise! But only post it if I do take that picture and if I don't feel too ashamed of it, ahahah!

Cheers!

Hey Márcio, good to hear from you

Here's my current workspace (in the corner of our bedroom!):

http://www.elated.com/res/Image/misc/matt-workspace.jpg

Here we have a 17" MacBook Pro sitting on an old sewing machine table picked up at an antique store a few years back.

The glowing USB-powered salt lamp to the right of the laptop is my new favourite toy - its ever-changing relaxing colours are currently balancing out the stress-inducing Time Machine crash log you can see on the screen.

Stapler and receipts are there because I'm doing my tax atm :-/

On the floor we have backup drive on the left, and my lovely djembe (African drum) on the right, which is never far from my side.

On the wall is a Father's Day gift made by my son.

I quite like my workspace but I'd like to add some more interesting and inspiring stuff I think - plants, maybe some more interesting furniture, art, etc...

Matt, you're really not helping me gain courage to show my future desktop, ahahahah! Com'on, no papers? No piles of flyers? No books, drawings all around? My sktechbooks, a pen, toys, boxes of media hardware... I have all of those always in my desktop. Incoming mail, etc... Lots of stuff... I wish I was just like you both, ahahah!

Cheers!

Thanks Márcio - very inspirational!

I particularly liked the Tintin moon rocket in http://simpledesks.net/post/28174572903/musical-minimalism-yes-its-arranged-especially (I'm a bit of a Tintin fan!). But my overall favourite is this one:

http://simpledesks.net/post/26551542101/the-great-outdoors-really-wanted-to-work

How nice would it be to work outdoors all the time! (If not very practical.)

Not many Windows PCs in that list I notice...

Why all macs, right? Well, I must admit, to work they are the best. I work with all, even Linux (I'm on Linux for the last months, since my HDD broke and I couldn't reinstall my original discs, since the new HDD had different specs, and original discs had some factory restrains) and since then I've tried to figure out the best way to work here. I've downloaded some apps, there is a great one, WINE, which allows us to reply Windows settings, but still not perfect, and still can't replicate most of Adobe stuff, so, from time to time I need to go back to my girlfriend's mac. However, some design apps on Linux allowed me to have some fun. Just that. No professional apps yet, and a shame, because you can have Photoshop on Android and iPad and not on Linux...

This offices/workspaces are indeed very nice and, like I've said before, I expect to have one like those some day, because yours could fit in that selection, ahahah! And the Tintin one is very nice. I must say that I got really upset when the last Tintin movie hit the cinemas. How strange to see the twin cops being called Thompsons... Grrrrr... They are called Dupond and Dupond, ahahha!

Cheers!

There is one PC laptop - about halfway down the page with the translucent black stools!

I had a conversation with a client the other day about this - we were making screenshots on devices for their site. I'd done one on an iPad, but the client wasn't an Apple fan at all and wanted non-Apple devices in the grabs. Trouble is, the terrible industrial design of most PCs just rubs off on the software we were taking screenshots of. The reason all sites take grabs on macs and iOS devices is that it makes their software look good - you piggyback on the back of the design and the brand itself.

It's the same with these pics. I'm guessing many are staged for magazines, and with that in mind, why would you put something in the picture with less than stellar looks?

Also, if you've spent ages fiddling with your workspace this much, you're going to be really sensitive to design, and more likely to gravitate to mac anyway.
