Greetings. I'm contemplating converting my site from a PHP platform to Wordpress.

However, I rank well with many search terms on Page 1 Google. I want the ease and benefits of WP but don't want to lose SEO momentum.

I'm wondering if I change to Wordpress, but keep my page URL the same; for example, a current page is http://www.dm92014.com/del-mar-condos.php and if I set it up and name it the same in WP (without the .php) ... will those links still be good? will they be indexed the same as if they didn't change? is this a bad idea? I would keep most of the existing content and add even more.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Paul

@pcstokes: I would use .htaccess and mod_rewrite to dynamically redirect all your old article URLs to the new WordPress URLs. Use 301 (permanent) redirects. Google will then transfer all the PageRank etc from the old to the new URLs, and you shouldn't (in theory) lose any rankings.

Bear in mind that the redirects will not happen overnight for Google's index. It can take several weeks before it has all transfered over AND a "permanent" redirection is only "permanent" while the redirect is in place.
