In the Elated Extra this week, I listed 5 pet peeves in web design trends that I'd like to see disappear:

1. Static mockups
2. Non-mobile optimised sites
3. Complexity
4. Organising sites by how your organisation is structured
5. Ugly back-ends for web apps

What trends do you hate most in web design and development these days? Post your thoughts below!

1: - Absolutely! I have the same conversation with my designer son every time he sends clients a "screenshot" rather than something they can "play with", fine if you want a layout or colour scheme approved, but not much to demonstrate functionality.

2: - I have the gripe about accessibility.

3:- Yep! Keep it simple 'cos' most users stupid and it it isn't blindingly obvious they will miss it.

4: Yep! Websites designed by accountants.

5: Does that include Joomla 1.5 and any version of Drupal?

What trends do I hope die a horrible death?

The "Web2.0" fad, finally!

Animation for no other reason than, "Because I can"

"Websites" that consist on one page and several "screens" that "float" in to view!

Clicks, pops and other assorted noises when you hover over a link.

Fussy Backgrounds that could rival a Jackson Pollock painting.

@chris What's your gripe about mobile accessibility?

Joomla's backend is pretty rancid I think. A classic of "coders trying to polish". It's better than many though. I don't know about Drupal. Is it any different?

I fear also I may be guilty of your extras in almost all ways, apart from the noise on hover thing, which is totally abhorrent.

It was meant to read "the same gripe about accessibility", regarding designers/developers who make absolutely no provision for accessibility on their pages.

Joomla has improved significantly in ver 2.5 though Drupal seems to be sticking to their reasonably confusing 'UI'

If you are building a profile/vanity site to show off your talents, skill, knowledge etc. then fine, use all the bells and whistles at your disposal, but something just shouldn't be used on commercial websites.

Keeping it simple is one thing, however you can take simplicity a little too far
