In Photoshop I want to incorporate a graphic as a layer. The graphic is black on a white background. How do I make the white background transparant - since all that I want is the graphic. I know that I could use the magic extractor, but was hoping that there was a simpler solution!
Thanks

Hi Eugene,

There are many ways to isolate and remove a background in Photoshop - the method you use is partly personal preference, and partly depends on the subject matter.

If there's a good contrast between the black graphic and the white background then I'd try the Color Range command (Select > Color Range). Once you've selected the white area, hit the delete key to make those white pixels transparent. (Make sure you do this on a regular layer, not the Background layer.)
