I trying to figure out how to create a 3D effect shaped as a sphere from a image. If you check out the link you will see how the money sphere has the 3D look. I actually found this image from a photo website. Is there a way this can be done in photoshop or illustrator using a two dimensional image? Thanks

Hi eman,

This process is known as texture mapping. I believe you can do it in Photoshop Extended, but not in regular Photoshop as far as I know.

You can also do it in pretty much any 3D graphics package such as Blender:

As another alternative, you could probably fake it in regular Photoshop using Filter > Distort > Spherize.

Hope that helps!

Hi Eman,

As Matt says, you can do it in Photoshop CS3 Extended and higher.

PS now handles 3D models in a "3D layer". So, you can open (or create in newer versions) a 3D model of a sphere, then map on any texture you like.

Interesting, I didn't know there was a Photoshop CS3 Extended version on the market. I thought that the only versions available were the full, Lite, or student versions but I'm interested to know how the extended version is different that just the regular CS3. Cool.
