I've been looking at CSS frameworks over the last week, pondering whether to try one for my next project.

The two I looked at were Blueprint - www.blueprintcss.org and 960 Grid System - 960.gs, but there are quite a few out there. Has anyone tried any of these?

The basic idea seems to be that you design to the grid and then use the predefined framework styles to do your markup. There is a bit of a learning curve in that you need to work out how the predefined classes would map to your layouts, but in theory it becomes a lot faster to do your markup.

I found one article suggesting that they were fine for prototyping but I got the impression the author wouldn't use a framework in production. Presumably they also narrow the design scope by forcing you to design to their grids as well?

Any thoughts? Worth pursuing or waste of time?
