Just getting my feet wet in the HTML world. Can I get a few people to help me get started by giving me suggestions? My site is www.bigdogcattle.com. It is an online cattle advertising company.

Thanks
Jamie

I would give the content area a minimum height, so it fits in the page.

Hey Jamie,

Thanks for posting your site. I think that's a nice design on the whole - looks pretty professional. The navigation menu is nice and clear so it's easy to find your way around the site.

I might be tempted to reduce the top logo somewhat, so that it's not taking up so much vertical space. A lot of the main content is "below the fold" on my screen.

Also if possible I'd redo your "Sign Up" button so that the background colours match (or give it a transparent background).

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks for everyone's comments. They are very helpful. I have done some redesign work, so can I have someone take another look at it? www.bigdogcattle.com

Jamie, I think that's a definite improvement. Nice work. The smaller logo puts the main content in a more prominent position, and the "Sign Up" button looks better.

It looks like you've done a good job with SEO too, with keywords in all the right places.

Some minor additional points:

1. I might be tempted to use a different font for your headings ("Where the big dogs meet!!", "Advertise with BigDogCattle.com" etc) - maybe a sans-serif such as Helvetica/Arial or Verdana. Currently the text looks a bit "samey" all in Times.

2. Your form fields on http://bigdogcattle.com/contact_us.html are quite narrow - I'd recommend doubling their width.

3. Some of the elements are broken on your "blog" page: http://bigdogcattle.com/blog/ - "General Calf Club Blog", the "Search" box, and "November 2009", in the left hand column. (At least on Firefox and Safari - haven't checked in IE.) You can't click them or select them at all. I suspect it's a CSS issue. If I have time I'll post a fix after the weekend. Meanwhile you could try running your pages through http://validator.w3.org/ and fixing the errors - that might solve the problem.

Otherwise, looking good!

Cheers,
Matt
