One of our 2 main supermarket chains over here in Australia is feeling the Apple heat over its new "apple-like" logo:

Personally I think the Woolies rebrand is nicely done (it's won awards too!). Surely Apple Legal is going too far here? To me the Woolies logo looks more like a bit of fruit peel than an apple! I certainly can't see people confusing the 2 brands...

Interesting. I'd seen this logo before, and I remember wondering at the time whether Apple would be grumpy about it.

Apple's lawyers are notoriously trigger-happy, and whether this was done deliberately (to subtly leverage Apple's brand) or not, any designer should know to stay well away from anything like an apple for a design, especially if it could go on something that's electronic.

Ouch! That's really close to the bone isn't it. Complete with aqua bubble for good measure!

Let's hope they don't start marketing a line of exercise mp3 players...

I get the impression Apple Legal makes a lot of pre-emptive strikes, just in case a legal dispute arises in the future (so they can show that they've made efforts to defend their marks). Harsh for everyone else though.
