OK, I'm a day late, but near enough:

On September 2, 1969, the first computer was connected to the internet (or what became the internet). Mind you, it wasn't until October 29 that the second one was connected - and then things started to get really interesting

Here's the original diagram of that first computer, a Sigma 7, attached to its IMP (router):

Wow, what a monster! Reminds me of the computers you see in 60s sci-fi movies.

It probably needed a staff of 10 people just to keep it running too...
