Here's a suggestion, seeing as loadsa peeps keep asking for new free pagekits.

How about running a competition to design a new pagekit? You could select the 1st prize and retain as part of your collection. I think many of us who like your kits would love a bash at getting a mention alongside you seasoned professionals!

If this worked you could even add a whole new section on winners kits.

Whatcha reckon?

Hi Evange,

Well, thoughts along these lines have been mooted here before. Our concerns are basically centered around the fact that we like to retain a certain house style. Plus it's important to us not to have any copyright issues or complications, which means the 'Kit would have to be signed over to us entirely, which is a pain and not something I guess people would consider.

We haven't looked at it recently though - maybe there's a case for it - what does everyone else think?

make it a cash prize and give very definitive rules and guidelines.

One thing that could be a problem is copyrighted images being used. In this case i suggest that people submit image sources along with the pagekit so that winning entries can be screened.

the problem i see is is he house style.

you guys use a lot of design based err, designs and the ever frustrating tables on the pages. i would hazard a guess that many people cant do this (me being one of them)

however, i think if you put it on a new section or maybe re jigged them a bit, it would be a good idea.

you would also have to watch out for people sending in templates that they stole from other resources aswell tho.

I don't know about design a pagekit, but one thing I 've always wondered about is basing a comp around a predefined set of images, then letting designers loose. There could be various catagories, basic (tables no flash) to advanced. Just a thought. The worry about copyrighted images that was mooted above could be overcome by inisisting that any images used had to be taken from those on the Elated site.

JUST A THOUGHT.

Sorry for the caps at the end, I'm trying to get used to a new keyboard, & my fingers are hitting the caps lock in error

I like Midnight_programmer's idea - the Web designer's equivalent of "Ready Steady Cook"!

It all sounds good! Can't imagine a cash prize though space cadet, it's just a bit of fun. Maybe an Elated T-shirt or Eraser or Pencil which Matt has etched 'Elated' into the side with a compass

I'd be well up for getting something mentioned on a site such as Elated, anything to improove the chances of getting paid work or full-time employment with a ready established web design firm would be great. That's enough of a prize, just to get a mention.

It could be a monthly thing, and like 'evange' said simply add the favourites to a 'users pagekit' section.

Thanks for the input Loz.

We're looking around for sponsorship on this by a few software companies, so maybe we'll be able to give away some software as a prize. Fingers crossed!

I shall have to keep an eye out for it starting. Thinking about the comp, it would only need 2 pages, an index & one other, similar to some of the pagekits, also using lipsum to provide the text, this should level the playing field. The only thing I can't decide is how the comp should be judged, peer review?

no no no

the right reverend Matt and Simon of course

I did think they might, but didn't think they'd like to do the job after spending all day running Elated. Simon & Matt need a home life too!

Yes programmers have a life...... wait a minute that's get a life, at least that's what everyone says when they find out what I do

Re judging competition, I thought you might like to do it, but then thought that that might be too cruel (TFIC)
