Super looking templates, and I hope you sell tons!! (Especially the pink ones...:) )

I'll be interested to learn how this is doing over the coming months. I'm supposed to be looking at doing these, but in a sort of a different way.

Great stuff!!

Yup, three cheers for Simon and Matt:O) - at least we know now why they've been so quiet of late! Me like the pink one's too, must be my flavour of the month:O)

I am having a real attack of "designer's block" over the new Pixels site. It needs to get updated and launched pretty quickly here, and I have NO fresh ideas at all. My portfolio is three times as big as it was last time I updated, and that site looks so gloomy and sad and post-9/11 to me.

Somehow I don't think pink is it though.

As we know, pink is just a muted shade of red...colours of emotion. What you might like to try is some zest in the form of oranges and lemons!

Have to agree, the new site is quality. Lets hope this site is now updated more often - like the good old days!

*laughs*

Well done Matt and Simon,

I wonder if the new sites' kits will eventually find their way here, after a suitably pregnant pause that is:O)

hmmm...double posting...Grrrrr

Cheers all!

So Anne, you're going to be the competition then?!

I find going to the pub helps with designer's block..

Competition? I hardly think so. Actually, Simon, I could use the benefit of your experience with this one.

I have the benefit of an experienced business-development person who taught the program I just finished and will be available to me for nearly a year. That's a great advantage, and one I want to use to the fullest.

She had seen a site where very high-end, very customizable templates were offered at a fairly high price. The basic design could be cookie-cuttered but colors, fonts, logos, etc. were all customizable--by the designer. These serve as an entry point for small-scale businesses and individuals in search of a high-end look--yet they are easy to develop and deploy.

On the templates front, I''m trying to decide if that's worth getting involved in.

Hi Anne,

Do you mean the idea where the user enters values on a web server and gets the end result, or that the values were easy to put when downloaded?

We've looked at the idea of a PageKits based site generator idea here at ELATED, but we're aware that it'd take months and months to develop and we just don't have the time or the cash reserves to subsidise it.

It gets more complicated the more you look at it, and to do a really good job where the user gets something genuinely good would take a *really* long time.

Having the bus-dev person on board has to be a good thing though. Can you get the build subsidised somehow?

Simon,

What I was thinking more of was a "wardrobe" of highly customizable templates. Client picks a template and I customize with their colors, logo, images, and text. Less expensive than an original design, more expensive than an off the rack template. My concern with off the rack was that I'd be offering a lot of unpaid tech support. That happened with a template user in the early spring this year, and it was no picnic.

I hadn't thought of a "roll your own via the Web" application because I don't have the programming chops to develop it. But that is an interesting question about a subsidy. (I will investigate. I'll also drop you a note.)

Having the business person as well as taking that course have been a Godsend. I feel as though I know where I'm headed.

Always good to know where you're headed!

We do much the same thing with the PageKit customisation area here at ELATED - we mod the existing 'Kits to people's requirements, which works pretty well.

As for the tech support thing, we've just accepted a certain amount of that is our lot in order to build the community here!
