Suggestion for page kits

I know this is kind of a tall order, and it's only a suggestion, but perhaps you develop a PHP based news system for use with future pagekits. I know you guys don't have buckets of free time, but maybe you could team up with a developer listed on Hotscripts(.com) and work together to build something that is easily adjustable.

Just an idea, and I know it's kind of a tall order, but it surely would be something used by more than just a handful of people.

Hi Homer,

This kind of "active" PageKit idea has been thrown around here at ELATED, and will probably make some kind of appearance in the future.

Right now, as you say, it's just time really, but we'll get around to somethinglike this I reckon!

Now that would be nice!

JonnyT, who posts occasionally--though I haven't seen him recently--has created and set to me a very fine PHP-based "image gallery" application. Simply done, it lets you have a typical gallery with thumbnails, all interfaced to a PHP site.

Things like that make a site so versatile.

There are a number of good, free PHP news systems that would plug right into a page kit. I was going to write one of my own, but it's been done so well by others.

My recommendation for one that uses a flat file (no MySQL db) is EasyNews.

ategory=all

I had it up and running in no time. There are lots of options if you want one that uses MySQL (I recommend it, it's better, but a little more complex).

I have a site that provides free programming scripts and tutorials (www.blazonry.com). It's impossible to do all the things I'd like to to, or get asked to do. So I use other peoples free scripts in order to get some things done.

(Blazonry doesn't use EasyNews, so don't judge EasyNews this way. Go to the developer's site from hotscripts. I use EasyNews on a site I created for my family.)

Annette,

Mind if I pick your brain a little bit?

What I really, really, REALLY want is a PHP-based application that will allow readers to upload articles of any length, formatted either as plain text or HTML.

I am using Nuke, and it's almost there, but not quite; there's a limit on the length of articles. It's not really interactivity that I'm looking for so much as the ability for a site to serve as a repository of written documents.

There are CGI tools out there that do this, but they're massively cumbersome and tough to administer.

Any suggestions? Thanks,

Anne

Anne, I'm pretty sure PHP-Nuke or Post Nuke have a combination of those modules/addons. I know I've seen them both posted at one time or another, if you give me til tomorrow, I'll dig em up.

Homer

Thanks, Homer,

I have Nuke installed now. The "handicapping condition" at the moment is that it's more of an articles/response system.

I've just located a blog-type software that may fit the bill--not entirely sure, since it's not exactly blogs either.

It's a poor-person's content-management system that I need.

Hi Anne,

I have been wanting to work on a web app like you describe. It's one of those projects I just haven't been able to make time for. When I looked around on hotscripts several months ago I bookmarked the following 2 that looked the most promising.

eZ publish
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/7894.html

phpWebSite
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/9026.html

I haven't actually worked with either of them so I don't know the limitations or the real "skinny" on them, or how easy they are to modify.

Hope that helps.

i do think that a coprate site for small business would be a good idear as your tempates are the best on the web. Thus it would be great advertising.
