Hi there,

You could try a look at our SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) for beginners article at:

http://www.elated.com/articles/seo-for-beginners/

Looking at the results for "landlord gas safety inspections" you have your work cut out though - there's a lot of competition out there.

Good luck,

Simon

I guess you are new. The first thing is to have meta tags. I had a look and this is all I found: title: lgsi.org.uk
Your title needs to include whatever keyword you want to rank for. I would guess you would want to use safety inspections. Your title can be up to 65 characters including spaces. I would use something like: Safety inspections | Gas safety checks for landlords. This is just a for instance. The title tag is the most important one for SEO (search engine optimization).
You need a description tag, for instance: Landlord gas safety inspections. We do safety checks for landlords and other property owners. Up to 150 characters will show up in a search result.
You need a keyword tag. Something like: inspections, gas inspections, safety inspections, etc., etc. There is really no limit to the number of keywords you can list but in my opinion the fewer the better. I see some people using hundreds of characters in this tag and all they accomplish is to dilute the density of the keywords they are trying to rank for.
You have not been indexed by Bing. You have been indexed by Google and Yahoo.
Yahoo credits you with 6 backlinks, Google says 0.
I would start with your meta tags and work on using your keywords on the page.
I will subscribe to this thread and once you have meta tags I can try to give you further advice. Spend some time learning. Do a search for search engine optimization and you will find a wealth of information to educate you. Take Simon's advice and look there first. I looked myself and found it very informative and well written.

@Ken: Some great SEO advice there. Thanks for posting. The title tag is very important to get right, and it would be worth concentrating on building some backlinks too.

What are your favourite sites for SEO tips? Personally I use http://searchenginewatch.com/ a lot. http://sphinn.com/ is also a great site for internet marketing in general - the 'Digg" of web marketing, if you like!

Hey Matt. Pleased to meet you. I really don't have any favorite SEO sites but will check out the ones in your post. I started a website last January and pretty much have been teaching myself SEO. Before that about all I knew about computers was how to email LOL.I belong to numerous forums and learn a lot through them. I am very new here. I still have a lot to learn and hope to be more accomplished in a year or two. I find the work fascinating and fun. I come to the forums because I find it relaxing and good for learning.

Hi Ken,

Yes, I find that forums are a great way to learn too (both asking and answering questions!).

I've dabbled in SEO for a few years but I've only started taking it seriously this year. There's a lot to learn. I find the important thing is to have a plan and stick to it consistently. Results come in the end.

Great to have you on board!

Cheers,
Matt
