I am having an issue with safari (on mac) not caching my pages. I usually use Adobe Golive, but I was having issues and decided to give Dreamweaver a shot. Building the site was easy but now the site won't cache in safari. It's caching in every other browser on mac and pc. I AM NOT A WEB DESIGNER at all, I am a print designer, so web is a foreign inhospitable land to me. So any help anyone can offer would be great. And please feel free to give me your opinions on the design

PLEASE HELP!

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. To clarify, is the issue that each time you reload a page, Safari reloads all the graphics rather than instantly just loading the content using cached graphics (ie the header and menu)?

I don't think this is something you should lose sleep over to be honest, but i can see the irritation. You could try a smaller image size for the header graphic (72kb is quite a lot), and even try html menus rather than image-based ones.

In answer to the bigger question , I admit I don't know why Safari's loading varies so much against the other browsers - anyone got any ideas?

Again with the overwhelming help here. You people are useless.

Simon,
I thought it was my modem and still kinda do, but I think it is Dreamweaver too. Safari has always been the one browser that loaded the fastest and most accurately, but now, ever since switching to Dreamweaver, I have had this problem. It's not the size thats the issue, because I have other sites that are just as graphic intensive, if not more and they load fine (all built in golive). So...the problem sorta narrows it's self down. Does Dreamweaver have some setting that tells pages not to cache? I really don't want to rebuild the site in Golive.

Telling people they are useless isn't going to get you anywhere !

Looking at your site the obvious thing is it doesn't validate and there is no Doctype specified. I would suggest you fix that and see what the situation is then.

If you don't know what I mean by this just go to http://validator.w3.org/

Sorry for the useless comment. I just hate web design and have no idea what I am doing and looking at the validation thing, have officially become overwhelmed. I have absolutely NO IDEA what any of that means or how to make it right. I am beyond confused at this point. I feel like scrapping the whole project. I just don't know what to do.

Mike...I love you!

I decided to play around by creating a new page in Golive to see what the doctype code would be, then pasted that into a few test pages and it worked! Thank you so much! You are truly NOT useless. I have one last question though. Golive is showing a bug on the index page, http://www.wearedesignsyndicate.com and I can't figure it out. I think it is the measurement of a cell being at 100% instead of xxx pixels. But I am not sure. Can yo look at the code for me please?

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean,

Its funny because I am the complete opposite to you. I am good at programming and stuff like that but poor at the design side.

I spend ages trying to do a logo for example and it just looks rubbish.

I'm not sure what you mean about GoLive showing a bug on the index page. The code doesnt look great but the site looks fine!

All I would say is why do you have that "Click to enter" page. I would just go straight to the site.

Just noticed there are two odd lines...

</script>
</csactiondict>

on the http://www.wearedesignsyndicate.com/ page that could probably be deleted.
