Designed to sell books and maps to savy travelers -- does it work? How could it be improved? .......input appreciated. I haven't seen page kit, so can't comment on it.

Hi there,

I must be one of your target audience, being both a keen traveller and a keen reader. I like the look of some of the books on the site and the home page has lots of information about the books.

My first impression of the home page is that it's quite cluttered. I wasn't quite sure where
to look or what to do next.

Part of the problem for me, is that there's lots of information seemingly unrelated to other
stuff around it. For example the "Search options" paragraph on the front page would be of
more use, near the search boxes. Perhaps you could have info like this popup when you click
a "help on searching" link near the search box.

Also, I would suggest trying maybe a non fussy background to reduce the cluttered feeling, and cutting down on those colours and bold, italic, all capitals etc.

Try and make sure the navigation is consistent across the site. Your top menu bar sometimes has more options than at others and the "Place Order" button on the view basket page should be next to your basket rather than on the menu bar.

All of your images have alt tags - that's good especially for people using text browsers.

I'd try and stick to just using one window. I thought my browser had just crashed but it was loading the page in a minimised window.

In summary then, good content, good reviews and product pictures. Could do with some decluttering and organisation.

Thanks Cat...... I appreciate your suggestions about the site, especially the idea of a pop-up window for search engine help. Will try to implement that soon.

There is a reason the top menu is not alway consistent. We work with a number of tour companies and they are not keen on having other tours or tour companies accessible from their "featured tour" pages. So, I try to be sensitive about limiting access to other links that might offend them. I have tried to keep the critical links consistent. I will also work on de-cluttering the site. This will take a while, though since I only do webwork in my "spare" time.

By the way, I have now downloaded a few page kits to try out for another site I am working on. Will let you know when it's ready. Thanks again, your comments were most helpful.
