Sorry if this has already been covered - I'm new to this and didn't find this question when I searched the forums.

My question is this:

When I save my image for web in Photoshop 7, it looks great in the view in Photoshop. But when I take that saved image and upload it into my website, it looks blurry/bitty, etc. Not at all what it looked like at first.

I thought perhaps it was the website but other photos, uploaded by various other users, look great and clean.

I am using the same computer to view the photo, and the difference from Photoshop to Online is vast.

Your answers are appreciated!

Hi there,

The big question I guess is how you're saving from Photoshop. To export a web image from PS, you should be using File>Save For Web, which is the area of PS dedicated to exporting web images.

Use the jpg file format for photos, and gif for flatter colour like line drawings.

If you are doing this then it's worth looking at the colour mode of the originating document, which should be RGB.

If this doesn't help, could you post one of the images somewhere so we can take a look please?

Yes, the images are RGB and saved as a jpg through the 'Save for web' feature. I work for a real estate company and the problem relates to posting photos in a public website:

This link should take you to the Ventura County Multiple Listing System. Please copy and paste this Listing number: 80013693 in the 'Listing Number' section, and hit enter to find 2662 Ridgebrook Place, Thousand Oaks. If you click on 'see addl pics' you will see what I am frustrated with - the images look very low quality.

Thank you.

My guess is that if it looks ok in Photoshop, then it's the online system downgrading the images when you upload. Do you have access to the people that built the system to ask them?

The easy way to check is to re-open in Photoshop the images you exported before you upload them. If they're okay there, then you know it's the system.

Thank you, I've come to a similar conclusion. The only nagging fact is that other properties' photos seem clear, compared to mine.

I appreciate your input and will continue to use further resources to figure this out.

Shame. Is the system re-sizing images? It might be that if you create your images to the exact size the site requires, then the resizing tool either won't kick in, or won't have to do so much work. I don't know if you do that already though.

As I say, if you can, talk to the developers who might be able to offer tips or be able to lessen the effect (if it's resizing it must also be re-saving, which will have quality settings).

Or talk to other users of the system and see what they do!
