Hi, I am very new to web building and i downloaded the web kit 'TECHNO' from the elated.com site. I have got Photoshop and tried changing the narratives on the first page ( ' use jets while you still can' and 'THEIR LAW ?' ) to something more meaningful related to my website.
Can anyone help me with that please ?

Hi Kash,

Thanks for posting this. The part of the site that has these two bits of text is a single image. The text elements you want to replace are not the text areas you migt be used to. This is because it was created in a version of Photoshop before editable type layers came in.

Therefore, just turn off those layers, and substitute your own text using the current type tool. Then crop out the menu elements along the bottom, and save the remaining file as "picture.gif", replacing the existing image.

Hope that helps,

Simon

That's odd. I'm in PS9/CS2 too, and it works fine for me. The file you need to open is "techno.psd" from within the "techno_psd" folder. Sure you're not opening the gif file by mistake?

Hi,
Thats great. You were right, I was editing the .gif instead of .psd

I managed to change it and save it, but when i open the index.html, it shows the original
Have i missed a step somewhere ?
Thank for your help

If you didn't save over the original gif file, then you'll need to change the HTML to reflect the name of the new image.

Far easier though is to delete the old image and rename the new one to the same name, then the HTML will pick it up automatically. Make sure it's in the "images" directory with the other images.

Hi,
As You have already realised , i am new to this game.

Ok, how do i create a gif file from psd ?
03-Aug-06 19:07

Ah, okay. You need to first "crop" the PSD file down to size by chopping off the menu area. There are blue "guides" on the PSD (View>Show>Guides) to show you where to crop.

Select the area above the horizontal blue guide and go to Image>Crop. The menu should now be absent.

The save the remaining file as a gif using File>Save for Web. Save it over the existing image.

The one you want to replace is "picture.gif". When you've replaced it, reload the page in a web browser and you should see your new version. Hold down shift as you press reload/refresh to make sure it appears.
