Where Do I Start?

I'm developing a site for our small church in Auckland, New Zealand. It is VERY basic in design at present and I would like to give it a bit of a lift and a more professional finish.

I have both Photoshop & Paint Shop Pro but don't really know how to use them. So will probably ask heaps of questions!

First thing I need help on is a graphic that I can see in my minds eye but don't know how to go about producing.

If you have a look at the site (www.houseofprayer.co.nz, you will see a table with a vision that one of our members had. I would like that to be displayed as if on an old parchment/scroll.

I've searched the net to see if I can find any graphics of a similar nature but no luck so far.

Suggestions?

Had a look at your site, thats good, well done. One Idea is that you do not use the purple background but a nice beige parchment background. That would also be in keeping with your site.
