You really have to be careful of using Flash splash pages these days, especially with the iPhone and other non-Flash devices. I visited a site recently on my phone and the homepage was basically a Flash movie with no "skip" link or anything. On the iPhone it just rendered as a black, blank page. Bye bye. Can't remember the site now (wonder why).

Splash pages basically suck. They're dreamed up by marketing types as a desperate way to hammer home the brand, but in reality they serve no purpose except to annoy visitors.

I'm not a big fan of splash pages, but if the client is insisting on flash... then I recommend including the flash movie within the homepage itself (with a backup image for browsers without flash installed), along with other HTML content on the page (eg. teasers, promos etc).

The client gets what they want, and all the users get to avoid an annoying splash page
