In this week's newsletter I talked about a recent article predicting the demise of a lot of online advertising companies in the face of the current economic situation:

On the other hand, many other pundits think the economic crisis will be *good* for Web advertising, as companies shift their ad budgets from offline to online.

What do you think? Will Web advertising collapse in 2009? Do you hate Web ads anyway and can't wait for them to die? What other revenue streams do you suggest for Web site owners? Let us know below!

Not a huge fan of web ads myself (though adsense isn't too bad), but I can't see online ads going away anytime soon. Online stores are always going to need to to get customers to click through to their sites. People don't like to type in long urls they see in print ads...

In everyday life we see ads everywhere. Even tatoos are a form of advertising a persons personality.

So if we have web advertising I don't think there's anything wrong with that and neither do I think their end is near either.

Valid points both. I think you're right - online advertising is probably here to stay. I suppose the question then is: will it be advertising as we currently know it, or something completely new? Time will tell!
