What exactly is web design anyway?

This week in our newsletter, the ELATED Extra, I recount a tale of how I spent a day on the design of a Web application, without ever pushing a single pixel around a screen or choosing a single colour.

In fact I spent it all offering opinions on disciplines I'm not entirely comfortable with, like information architecture and user interface design.

Do you have any tales where you've been asked to provide thoughts on subjects very removed from traditional Web design (or development)? Let us know here!

I think putting on your "end-user hat", as you say, is all you can do really. Unless your client is absolutely huge then they're not going to have a separate budget for things like usability experts and so on.

I find the same's true as a web developer - I'm always getting called on to offer my opinion on everything from design, usability and web marketing issues through to what Mac anti-virus package to use!
