In the ELATED newsletter this week, I talk about a recent holiday where I was meant to be working, as well as having fun. The promised broadband link though was a disaster, leading to all sorts of traumas, including driving round tiny lanes in the hope that I could pick up a 3G mobile phone signal so I could use my 3G modem!

This topic is for anyone who wants to share their stories of hellish connectivity; let's hear those stories!

Hi Simon,

Trust me you havent had hellish connectivity untill you come to my country!

Broadband, 3G modem, etc are all still in there infancy over here, and public power supply has become a folk tale!!

The problem I suffer from most in Australia is not poor connectivity, but the monthly download limits that all ISPs impose over here.

We subscribe to quite a few news video podcasts (not having a TV), and downloading those each day, along with the occasional software download, server backup and a bit of YouTubeing, and there goes our allowance for the month! At which point our bandwidth gets throttled to modem speeds, making work nearly impossible. Painful. Doesn't happen every month thankfully.

Are download limits common in other countries like the UK?

Theoretically, in the UK with BT I do have a cap, but I don't appear to reach it, and indeed, when i rang up to find out what it was, they were unable to tell me!
