In common with other erotica writers, I hoped that the new erotica for women would explore emotional responses more than just the physical, and produce some really hot romance. However, the editors chose to go another route and produce more hard, S&M stories than romantic ones. They claim this is what women want, but I feel there is still a place for sentiment in erotica. However, the UK erotica publishers are now cutting back drastically on their output, so maybe they went down a blind alley and should have introduced more emotional themes? Perhaps romance will step in to fill the gap. I, for one, hope so.
